WEBER COUNTY, Utah (KUTV) — A new space will soon be available for Black business owners in Utah to work, network and grow their companies.
It’s called the Black Success Center, and it’s inside a Weber County warehouse where Alli Bey runs his defense contracting company, Haight Bey & Associates.
He also helps other entrepreneurs. At first, his focus was veterans through the Utah-based nonprofit Warriors Rising.
Bey, who served a decade with the U.S. Army, gave Trinidy Johnson, another veteran who was once based at Hill Air Force Base, an office space to launch her human resources business, Pyramid Edge Consulting.
Starting a business is always extremely scary because you don’t know what’s going to happen,” she said.
Johnson has grown from no employees to six employees and more than $300,000 per year in revenue in the past year.
“I don’t think I would’ve taken that leap,” she said, “so Alli coming in my life was literally a blessing in disguise.”
Now, the Utah Black Chamber is partnering to expand the focus. Other groups and businesses have donated furniture and technology.
“Right now, there’s no place in northern Utah for our minority communities, members, business owners to meet,” said Bey, whose space is west of Ogden in West Haven.
A launch event is planned for June 16. Bey hopes to see more veterans and minorities using the space.
The doors that it’s going to open for employers and employees alike is going to be phenomenal,” Johnson said.
