Mary J. Blige won a motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by longtime friend and stylist Misa Hilton when the case was dismissed without prejudice.
Mary J Blige scored a legal victory after the judge rejected the claim submitted by him ex-girlfriend and stylist Misa Hilton without prejudice.
In a January 6 decision, a New York judge dismissed the case In response to Hilton missing a deadline to defend her claims that Blige tried to steal rapper Vado from her list of managers, Rolling Stone reports. Since the suit was dismissed without prejudice, Hilton still has the option of seeking sanctions against the Grammy winner.
In making her ruling, Judge Phaedra F. Perry-Bond sharply warned Hilton that her failure to respond to Blige’s motion to dismiss would “constitute a waiver” of her claims. Perry-Bond did not sanction Hilton, but expressed her frustration at the stylist’s inaction.
“There is no way the court will allow parties who have filed lawsuits seeking millions in damages based on inflammatory allegations, only to have those same parties abandon their allegations when faced with a motion to dismiss and the imposition of sanctions,” the judge wrote. “Plaintiffs and their attorneys should take this as a warning to avoid similar behavior in the future. This written warning may serve as strong evidence of future sanctions if plaintiffs and/or their counsel continue to engage in similar unconscionable litigation tactics.”
A lawsuit filed by Hilton in April 2025 accused Blige interfering with him record label deals involving his best client, rapper Vado, have shocked many in the industry. The pair’s friendship dates back to the early ’90s, when Hilton, who was dating Sean “Diddy” Combs at the time, began styling Blige to promote her 1992 debut album. What is the 411? and continued to work with him throughout his career.
The relationship soured in recent years when Hilton accused his longtime friend and client of “forcing” Harlem rapper Vado, whom Hilton managed, to end his management deal. She claimed that Blige wanted to move Vado to her own company, Beautiful Life Productions, where she also had a record deal.
Blige began dismissing the “frivolous” lawsuit when her lawyers argued that Hylton’s company, MISA Management, was not a valid corporation because Hylton did not have a talent agent’s license. They added that the lawsuit was filed “for the sole purpose of harassing and causing malicious injury to (Blige) based on Hilton’s personal animosity toward Ms. Blige.”
No word yet on the parties’ response to the dismissed lawsuit, but Hilton now has his hands full as his son Justin Combs is about to be released Documents with her brother Christian, exploring how their family navigates media scrutiny amid their father’s federal prostitution incarceration.
