The track is called “MJ. Insights of Excellence.”
On Oct. 21, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan, will make his debut as a special contributor to NBC Sports, which will air NBA games for the first time since 2002.
When NBC Sports originally stated Jordan’s role, no one there explained what the basketball legend would do. Jordan, who has never worked in the media other than as an interview subject, was also opaque.
“I am so excited to have the NBA back on NBC,” Jordan said in a written statement. “The NBA on NBC has been an important part of my career and I am excited about the special contribution of the project. I look forward to seeing you all when NBA on NBC starts this October.”
Jordan’s championship run with the Chicago Bulls, six titles in eight seasons, coincided with the start of NBC’s NBA coverage.
Now that the NBA season is about to begin, NBC has released a clip of Jordan talking to NBC Sports reporter Mike Tirico in what appears to be an intimate discussion in a studio setting. (What was discussed? No idea. There was no sound.) A brief promo was shown Sunday night football on Sunday, October 19.

NBC Sports released a statement declaring that Jordan’s first appearance as a special contributor will take place during halftime of the Houston Rockets-Oklahoma City Thunder game on October 21. “MJ. Insights of Excellence” segment will run throughout the NBA season.
NBC returned to broadcast NBA games after NBCUniversal and the NBA signed An 11-year agreement to broadcast NBA and WNBA regular season and playoff basketball games on multiple platforms.
