
The Neighborhood Nip Foundation was established in 2019 with the goal of expanding Nipsey Hussle’s legacy through initiatives that benefit disadvantaged youth.
It Neighborhood Nip Foundationhe organization honoring the late rapper Nipsey Hussle held her first annual turkey drive in South Los Angeles on Nov. 25, giving away thousands of turkeys to the neighborhood.
By: CBS News, this was the first activation from the foundation’s Slauson Avenue parking lot, an iconic and important space for the Nipsey Hussle.
“That’s where my brother first sold his mix tape. He eventually started opening businesses in this parking lot and then bought the whole lot,” said Samiel Asghedom, Nispey’s brother. “We turned this whole lot into the Neighborhood Nip Foundation. So it’s really important to be able to step up from here.”

While it remains unclear how close the foundations are to their goal, their turkey drives come at a time when Americans are feeling the strain of rising costs. Although the average price of a Thanksgiving meal is down slightly from last year, overall food costs remain higher.
The recent government shutdown added fuel to the fire. With the temporary suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, many families were left without essential food assistance. Many families relied on community food banks to fill the gaps.
Last: “Raising voices. insight report” Feeding America found that the number of Americans facing hunger is on the rise due to high inflation, economic pressures and the end of aid programs during the pandemic. Food insecurity levels are approaching levels last seen during the Great Recession.
In its report, 80% of respondents said they bought cheaper, less nutritious food because of high food prices. More than half (52%) report running out of food in the past year, even after having more money to buy food. More than half (51%) report being late paying bills for groceries, such as rent, utilities and medical bills.
