The University Council adds two new AP courses In its 70 -year program. The goal is to respond to a changing industry, the demand for the labor market, as well as the ways of preparing the students better, whether they are planned or not to attend the university. The University Council not only introduces a new cybersecurity and business coursesThese are also adaptation classes to include AI and has been associated with entrepreneurs for the first time. The new AP courses will be launched in the school year 2026-27.
Make room for artificial intelligence in the education system
The University Council was asked to make these new changes to respond to high school students’ concerns about the content of their classes. David Coleman, CEO of the University Council, said that the students have been disassociated with the classes that they consider to be not properly prepared for their future. AI has also been a new challenge on learning.
“Secondary schools had a crisis of relevance long before AI,” said Coleman Edweek. “CSome courses like the AP Seminar can afford to use and” could be judged on whether they have been used effectively to move forward in their work, “said Coleman. However, timed evaluation would not include this tool for counterbalance.
“I think interaction is essential to advancing in the world of ai,” he said for another EDWEEK Report. “We always want the control and balance of what you can do with him and what you can do without him, to see what you are gaining separately (the course).”
The new AP courses collaborate with the employers
The new AP courses were developed in collaboration with the United States Chamber of Commerce and the IBM technology company.
“Our goal is for entrepreneurs to recognize the value of (the work), when you request practices or learning or when you are at work,” Coleman said about the importance of involving entrepreneurs and not just higher education institutions in courses offered in high school.
Neil Bradley, executive vice president and responsible for policies in the Chamber of Commerce, said that the course will help students who already have useful skills outside of high school.
“This course will give people an advantage both when they request jobs, and once they get their job, whether they are a university degree or if they have come directly to the workforce, because they will only have a basic understanding of how companies work in general,” he said. “These are skills that can be adopted in virtually any workplace and will be valuable.”
In the business course, students will work on teams to develop a business plan and simulate a financial role for homes with different levels and income objectives. In the cybersecurity course, students passing the class evaluation can obtain a voucher for the preparation of tests and exam rates to take the Compia exam, a recognized evaluation by the industry.
