PHARRELL WILLIAMS It continues to challenge all odds in various media, including fashion, cinema and beyond.
Recently, the Virginia Native contributions to society were recognized during the 37th annual Morehouse College Gala “A Candle in the Dark”, where he was honored with the Candle in Arts and Entertainment Award.
In front of the event, Williams appeared at the High Museum of Art for a special conversation to support his latest effort, All day I dream of sport (Adidas)A film directed by Williams and director Gabriel Moses, which serves as a “visual love letter to the culture of West Africa, which was in the daily experience of life in Senegal”, by description.
After a multitude of HBCU eager students who were surrounded by the Consortium of the Center of Atlanta University, including Spelman College, Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University, they could project the 20 -minute movie, Williams went up next to James Whitner Complex.
“I do not know what would be without the different platforms that I have been able to operate artistically because they are all the means of expression. They are all different centers of opportunity to express it,” said Williams, who admitted that he was humble to share space with the crowd. “Whether music, fashion or content, and continue to continue and continue, but the idea that expresses us is incredible.”
He added: “But the concept you can, such as, put the machinery behind your ideas and your wishes and your ways of expressing -you are generating -your life is the biggest gift there. Never work a day in your life.
When asked about the process of collaborating with Moses, Williams said he continues to follow the example of the co -founder and producer of Def Jam Recordings, Rick Rubin.
“I am a different type of collaborator,” he said. “ I am a producer, but Rick Rubin said it before it is a reducer, and I agree with it. I reduce myself to the room when I am with the talent because I want talent to be talent. My job is to be a mirror for their blind points and show them the things that they have never seen before or that they have overlooked their voice or different parts of the way they write in terms of perspective and angle.
“My job is, well, you know, for example, Beyoncé, well, never … This is not good because he really uses all parts of his voice, but I’m just imagining someone who only sings in a space and never explores the rest of his voice,” he continued. “My job is to say,” Hey, try. I know you feel uncomfortable. Let’s work a little. “And if so let’s squeeze a record in this direction.”
Williams is OK to step back to help anyone who works with Shine The Light who resides within a level that never before. In this case, he adopted the same approach with Moses, as well as a friend and contributor of a long time Pusha T, who appears on the “Mike Tyson Blow to the Face” filling court, included in the Adidas Score next to other original Williams songs entitled “Snowglobe” and “All Day and Dream of Sport”.
“My job is to keep the mirror and then, when you find strength in yourself, in terms of trust, to address your trade in a unique way you have not done before and is more successful than what you know,” said the “happy” crooner. “That is why when you think of André 3000, it is so great because I had it to try things when other people would not. He would bring the hood, black and the unique experience on this planet with him in a verse, but only attacked him in so many different ways. Not everyone wakes up in the morning and any verse that does it is incredible, not everyone can do it.
Similar to Williams’ approach to collaboration and work together, Whitner’s space in the fashion world is rooted in the community.
In 2005, Whitner launched his first fashion boutique and shoes in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since then, the company has evolved to a network of more than 26 shops and spaces in 13 cities, with a new brick and mortar that arrives in Atlanta soon. Whitner has found a way to integrate luxury detail with cultural narratives and social impacts.
“It’s in the center, because if we are not at the center of our own narrative, how can we expect to be in the center of the narration of all others? “It’s the most important thing we do.”
All day I dream of sport It is currently available to reproduce it in the The club’s cinema or the Adidas website.
