Season 7 of The Chi It is now a wrap. The show is breaking records, and it is Now the longest black Premium cable series. While season 8 is already in the works, the series has lost a lot of its brightness.
It’s not that the show is no longer nice. It is giving more than one night cruise: with uneven stories, little character development, the addition and elimination of too many characters who do not advance the story and many deaths. It is very plastered in a short period of time.
Last season, I shared my concerns And he hoped that there was an improvement and a return apart from the magic we saw in the previous seasons. But the 7th season has felt even more chaotic and confusing, and I let myself ask -where everything goes.
But with the whole story, I hope I can turn around. In the meantime, there are recurring concerns that need to be addressed and corrected in season 8.
All children have gone
When the series created by Lena Waithe premiered in 2018, it was an instant success, mainly due to the age stories we witnessed in the main group. As with life, everyone grows and, ideally, goes to greener pastures. The problem is that the children left and their stories seemed to end quickly, with little accumulation.
Kevin got into play, moved to his own place, and then left the world of games. Myeisha followed Kevin to pursue photography and his romance. Gemma moved to New York to pursue music management. This left Jake, Pope, Lynae and Bakari. Pope and Bakari are still a prominent presence on the program, but the absence of others is noticeable, especially considering that they were the focus of so many seasons.
There are too many new characters that look like charges
The series introduced new characters as the children graduated and branched, but many of these additions came with few organic bonds with the group.
Only this season, we met Zuri (Karrueche Tran) through Emmett’s brother, Damien (Brett Gray), in an addict support group. Irrigation (Barton Fitzgerald) returns from the dead and re -enters the fold, causing the chaos. Hannibal is to marry Angie (Kyla Pratt). Change (Reagan Gomez-Preston) presents with Dante (Cory Hardrict) and moves quickly with irrigation. While Emmett is hospitalized, Keisha hires a new manager at Smokey’s, Shawnita (Punkie Johnson). Rashaad starts out with Nora (Tammy Townsend). Phylicia Rashad joins the distribution as a mother -in -law of Renee, Pastor Zeke (Daniel J. Watts). Wendy Raquel Robinson plays Riley Dalon, the leader of the Darnell support group after the recurrence of Jada cancer.
There are probably more, but it is a long list of characters that are packed in 10 50 minute episodes. This is a lot to absorb an audience.
Why does everyone die or shoot?
The season started with a punch, literally. In episode 1, Alicia is on a ramp to find who killed her son, Rob (Iman Shumpert). She shoots and kills Zay (Aaron Guy) based on a tip of the true killer, Knuck (Cortez Smith), who is Zay’s cousin. Knuck also kills one of his runners in front of the group to bring too much jewelry. Alicia accidentally fires Jamal as he tries to shoot irrigation, believing that he may have killed Rob. Rob is chopped and hid. Damien, Emmett’s brother, God Money and is beaten. Emmett faces Rob, who fires him in “self -defense”.
The stories move too quickly and everyone meets everyone
We followed the Trianglemett-Tiff-Kake from the beginning. Now, Emmett and Keisha are finally together and raising the son of Tiff and Emmett full -time. At the same time, both Keisha and Tiff are pregnant with two different men, Knuck and Victor (Luke James), in Tiff’s orbit. Knuck is also the father of Keisha’s son. Alicia was right: this is the ghetto Brady Bunch.
Emmett’s brother presented himself this season and has already aroused problems. He has almost managed to kill Emmett, works at Smokey’s, fights with addiction, lives with Emmett and Keisha, and somehow knows everyone. Where did he even come from? Where is your maternal side of the family?
The history of Jada cancer was quickly climbed. In episode 9, he gets a terminal diagnosis. She throws a party to Darnell and then shares the news. In episode 10, Emmett has recovered from being shot, learning that his mother dies and proposes to Keisha, who declines. They spend three weeks and Jada is already home.
Bakari, once promising, is stuck between the streets and the school, dreaming of being a novelist. Alicia gives her a scholarship, but she takes her out after learning that she knows who killed Rob. Either you will talk or will not.
What will happen next?
When two episodes were left in the season, I predicted that Jada would die for episode 12, that Tiff and Keisha would probably give birth, Knuck would reveal himself as the Rob and Hannibal, Reg or Knuck murderer, or all three, would not. Most of this happened.
This is what average Pass: Cut the filling characters introduced in the 7th season. There is no room for them. Refocus on the stories of the main group to return the heart of the series. And please facilitate body count. Let the characters breathe and the story.
