Here is the official description:
They choose violence Follow Laneka, Deidre and Karen, three HBCU black friends became professionals who come together to form a vigilant squad aimed at white supremacists who were considered to circumvent the justice system and moved away with protected murder. The Justice of Justice Watchman, the watchman becomes heroes of worship and first page news, while always holding a step ahead of the law. It is effective, it is cathartic, it is fun, until they are forced to face the consequences of their actions, a cup killer that the signature of which contains a special message, and the line between hero and Vilà begins to blur.

In a conversation with Blavity, Allen breaks down the emotions of real life, frustrations and fire that fed They choose violence. He is honest about how he built three women with Badass, educated by Hbcu, who are not finished revenge, based, calculating and selling for systems, not just people. From the gray areas of Vigilate’s justice to a Copycat killer shaking things, Allen explains what happens when people decide that the system does not work, and affairs are taken in their hands. In addition, it gives flowers to the artist Mauricio Campetella, whose visuals further affected the weight of the story.
What inspired you to create They choose violenceAnd how did you navigate to tell a story that takes advantage of the racial injustices of the real world, although it becomes a thriller of crime?
I would not say that there was a specific incident or catalyst that led me to sit and write the book, but there is no way to look around what was happening in the last decade in terms of racial injustice and to be quiet. I mean, it is nothing new in this country, but now it is captured in 4K with an instant comment section below. The key to me, however, was that I did not want to propose -to do something that came out as Santimoniosa. My main agenda with any story I create is to entertain. No matter what the subject is. No matter the deep, personal, historical or sensitive material. It must entertain -SE. It is my number one rule. Of course, browse this place from time to time to ensure -you do not approach the territory of exploitation, but yes, the entertainment factor has always been my principle of guide. With They choose violenceAs the ideas began to perceive and occupy all the real estate on the plant above, the question became: “As I can say my opinion on this relevant topic that our headlines dominated without going out as a preaching with the Mailman Keenan Ivory Wayans who entered a frame saying” message! ” – Additional credit points by the way if you have this reference. End.
Laneka, Deidre and Karen are professionals educated by Hbcu who take justice in their own hands. How did you shape your motivations and skills sets to make your transformation in vigilantes feel authentic?
Authenticity comes from the association, including my own sister. According to my experience, no one will align faster or harder than a HBCU graduate. They simply do not have time for nonsense, and a large part of this energy is rooted in capacity. These people know their s ** t, and they know They know their s ** t. The girls in our history would be natural vigilantes, given their proximity and familiarity with the injustice that gives history, but what is most important, they would do effective vigilantes. Not only a few Punisher reproaches interested in this type or that type here, but the vigilantes invested in demolishing entire systems of injustice and abuse. This is not something that only sat down and said, “Hey, we give some masks with emoji faces and we begin to assassinate guilty people who went down.” No, they would say, “Okay, if we’re going to do this, we have to do well. We do a plan. We train. We look at all possible results. Ensure -we have all ours and and they believe before something wild like this begins.”

Watching Justice is a topic that often blurs lines between heroism and Vilany. Since a Copycat murderer emerges in the series, how does this complicate the moral questions that surround the protagonists’s mission?
I am interested in stories that challenge our sense of morality and lead us to uncomfortable answers. I have often said that about some of the other books I wrote, but there is no good or bad guy. There are characters that root and characters you can root. But heroes or villains will always be a matter of perspective. You must remember, I grew up a comic book fan, but my favorite Marvel characters were always boys like Green Goblin, Magneto, Thanos and Dr. Doom. To me, the Copycat killer represents one of the consequences of watchman. Violence is not something that can be contained or disinfected. It is almost always remembered with more violence.
One of the things that has been alarmed lately is the unpleasant and impersonal that we have become a society. Empathy is seen as weakness and cruelty is rewarded. We are far from Michelle Obama that is celebrated to say -we go high when we go down. It is now “if they go down, let’s go underground”. I began to notice how people casually spoke of inflicting violence on others in the name of recovering their lick or fixing a perceived bad. I’m not sure people are really thinking about what these kinds of acts really involve. It’s something we explore with girls in our story. What happens when someone really makes a complete militant and embraces violence? How can you embark on that dark path without losing a part of who you are? Your humanity. What about collateral damage? What about the rule of law? The due process is only valid if we agree with the results? There is no easy answers, and it is a journey to see that girls go to this unexpected journey through an amoral desert where the only rules are, there are no rules.

A specific panel or sequence can be mocked at They choose violence Where did the visuals of Mauricio Campetella raised the emotional or thematic weight of a scene?
This will be my third book with Mauricio and, of course, it will not be my last. I joke with him all the time he has a lifelong contract with me, whether he knows or not. What he was crazy about working with him in this book was that he made me realize -to what extent the routes of justice travel. It is based in Argentina and still knew all the names, the city, the shot, the heartbeat, the verdict and the protest movement that happened here in the United States. This is the best job of his career and when I told him he said it was because he connected with the material at the human level and wanted to ensure that his game increased. Note that Mauritius is a very humble boy, so that can be given so that it can be pillars like that, you know that it must be special. There is a particular sequence in the final number that I think is a career for both. When he was done, he said, “I can’t believe that he wrote it,” just as I said, “I can’t believe it would have drawn me.” But I can’t say -what it is without damaging things, so to answer the question, the whole training sequence of the first issue is when I started thinking that maybe we will be cooking. I think it was when the ladies came to life for me and, luckily, the audience will feel the same way when they experience it.
How would you say that the protagonists are forced to consider the unwanted fall of their actions?
It goes back to this question of morality. Of course, the guy committing this horrible act of violence can be guilty as hell, but you are also so guilty of murder. What makes you better than the guy who supposedly does not allow you to justify justification? Also, what happens when you reach a point where you don’t even remember why you started first? This is just one aspect. The other part of the story, which is presented around number 3, is what happens when you find out all the time you have been playing directly in your adversary’s hands and moving on to your goals to the detriment of yours. I can’t say -enough; You have no idea where the book is going and I can’t wait for the readers, on the left, to the right, to the conservative, liberal, libertarian, anything, to see themselves where we finish. It is a twisted walk where you will not see what will come below. It is my maximum recommendation, if I do not say it myself.
