It White House has directed the Smithsonian Institution To share their exhibition materials, collections and organizational details in order to see if they align with Trump’s vision on America. A letter, signed by several White House officials and sent Tuesday, includes a list of interested museums and the deadlines requested.
The letter indicates the need for museums to fulfill the executive order of Trump signed on March 27, entitled “Restoration of truth and health in North -American history.”

“We will direct a complete internal review of the selected Smithsonian museums and exhibitions”, letter Read. “This initiative aims to ensure the alignment with the President’s directive to celebrate North -American exceptionalism, eliminate divisive or partisan narratives and restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions.”
The letter requests access to specific materials, including 250th anniversary programming, current and nearby exhibitions, permanent collection, educational and digital materials, external collaborations and aid, internal guidelines and governance and much more.

“We see this process as a collaborative and future opportunity: one that allows the museum staff to adopt a revitalized curator vision rooted in the strength, breadth and success of American history,” adds the letter. “When focusing on Americanism, the people, the principles and the advances that define our nation, we can work together to renew the role of Smithsonian as an institution of the world leader museum.”
From now on, the letter lists these requests to the following museums: the National Museum of American History, the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of African African History and Culture, the National Museum of American India, the National Air and Space Museum, the National Portrait Gallery and the Hirshorn Museum and the Sculpture Garden.
“The additional museums will be reviewed in Phase II,” the letter added. The Smithsonian institution includes 21 museums, 14 education and research centers, as well as the National Zoo.
How is the Smithsonian Institute addressed?
The institute has issued a statement that responds to the application for the White House.
“We are reviewing the letter taking into account this commitment and we will continue to collaborate constructively with the White House, the Congress and our Board of Government Regents,” he said, according to News NBC.
The institute added that “it is based on a deep commitment to academic excellence, rigorous research and the precise presentation of the story.”
In May, it was reported that 32 artifacts at the National History and Culture Museum of Smithsonian African American had been removed from the screen. Some of these articles include the Harriet Tubman Hypan’s Book and the Frederick Douglass’s life narrative Memory.
