In an attempt to highlight people who lead colleges and universities across the country, we have reached the yard to Georgia State University and an interview with James Wilson, president of the Student Government Association 2024-2025.
The position of SGA president is a great respect, and there is a special pride in their election by their peers to lead. Wilson, a specialist in general policy with secondary education, from Kovington, Georgia.

We met James Wilson and talked to him about his position and goals and the future and what it means to occupy this type of leadership in 2024-2025.

What is the biggest thing you learned as SGA president so far?
The biggest thing I learned regarding the President of SGA is that the best leaders are the people who understand people – how to work with them, build relationships with them, agree with them, take care of them, respect them, and support them. If you take care of your people, they will take care of you.
What made you decide to attend the Georgia State University for university students?
I decided to attend the state of Georgia because I needed to go to a school that would force me to get out of my comfort area. High school made me get used to everyone’s knowledge and lead everything. I came from a small town, and I almost went to a small college, but I decided to go to a university where I had to build and work to restore my position and comfort. Mobilization of myself remains out of my comfort area to go to GSU, the best decision I made in my life.

How did Georgia State University trick you to the person you are today?
Georgia State University crucified me in a servant leader. When leaving high school, I was a leader, but I didn’t fully understand that there could be no real leadership without service. The service for others is what begins our authority and leadership. My friends and peer guides really inspired me to take service not as a hobby but as a lifestyle, and it has changed my view of everything.
What are the specific initiatives that you went to this year (or planning), and how do you think it will improve the school and the surrounding community?
As president, she really led some influential initiatives. The first was a passenger/non -residential meal plan to give more students to healthy and low -cost meals options on campus. It was huge for me because I was a passenger student during my first year in GSU, so I know how difficult it is to eat away from home and not break the bank.
Another initiative I am proud of is the efforts to collect the emergency fund for students. The “adult bill” was ever ever a car repair tab for $ 1,800 in the first year. I couldn’t pay her on my own (and I didn’t want to call the house to ask for money so far), so I applied to obtain funds from the Student Emergency Fund at GSU. This rescue was for me – so now I work with some graduates and community partners to raise at least $ 15,000 for the fund. I am determined to see this through.
I also have many other wonderful initiatives, as well as the student body scholarship gallery. God has blessed the predecessor, and he set a wonderful basis for me and for the element of the Senate and the officers in my organization, who are real stars and painters.

How does your SGA management/school currently attend the mental health of students?
It was one of the first things that I did as president of a partner at the advisory center in our school to put a whole week of suicide prevention programming. In previous years, GSU had only a day or two of suicide events and programs, this first year was doing a whole week, and SGA was proud to partner with them to put it on the panels, mental health exhibitions, Instagram information and more. In addition, I now filmed two video clip with our advice center to promote their services to the Student Authority. Promotion and marketing is very important, as students enjoy more mental health resources and support them more than ever, but everything is useless if students themselves do not know what they can reach. The influential health programming is part of the Strategic Plan of my administration, and we will continue to search for the mental health of our student body.
What does driving mean to you?
For me, driving revolves around inspiration. The inspiration of others is not only to follow you, but to follow the path. This path may be linked to education, health and the environment; It can be anything really. The most important skill and qualification of the leader is the ability to inspire work in others. Anyone who has ever been in the leadership position – from the chief executives of big companies to the great brothers and the great sisters in our homes know how difficult it is to make others do something. For this reason we need leaders. Driving is not related to control or power, too. Managers control people – leaders inspire people.
We are now living in a digital world, what do you think of schools that you should do to represent themselves online in 2025?
Schools need to realize the difference between the current and cold survival. We do not need to see people 4 times in our time they dance on Tik Tok, we want to see each other. When I go to the Internet to my website, I want to see my friends and colleagues. I want to see them and I want to see the great things they accomplish. There is no amount of glossy graphics or viral trends that can replace the power of seeing others who do the thing that you seek to do – whether it leads an institution or graduated. Schools should always remember that your students represent you better than anything else.

Why do you think watching the courtyard is important for black students and the culture of the kidney?
Watching the annihilation is crucial because it is a space that the black can go to see success and the life of other blacks. This is much more important than people think. You can find black sadness, black suffering, black shame, and black pain almost anywhere – people will even see it. It is sometimes sad to be a black person in this country. On the other hand, you know when to go to places such as watching the courtyard that you will see black distinction, black strength, black beauty and black intelligence. It does not matter if you are Greek, athlete, in SGA, or a completely new student, see the annihilation in raising culture for everyone. Black deserves to see success and other black life.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to devote my career to improve the education policy. The way we educate students in this country is a direct reflection of the health and strength of this nation. Now, we are not doing a great job. Students deserve more, and they know that and we know that. So, with my testimony, I will work and strike for the success of our public schools, public colleges and universities.
