Salisbury, NC-based HBCU Livingstone College has fueled another transformation in addition to a remarkable donation that is helping to transform the future of the Salisbury Institution. The latest gift – a gift of 5 million dollars without an anonymous benefit – additional cements Livingstone College As one of the fastest growing institutions in the HBCU sector.
The timing of the donation makes the story even more powerful. Just a few days ago, President and CEO Dr. Anthony J. Davis successfully completed a kidney transplant. The gift announcement came seven days after the procedure.
“Seven days after my surgery, I had a full recovery and all the tests came back normal,” she said. “I am restored, renewed and rejuvenated.”
Under Davis’ leadership, Livingstone College has moved aggressively toward a historic turnaround, relying on both growth and innovation. Enrollment has soared, and capital improvements on campus have become more than just a slogan, and the “Miracle on Monroe Street” is now a multimillion-dollar revitalization effort backed by an unprecedented philanthropist.
This anonymous donor has now contributed over $61 million towards this vision. Their gifts have also led to critical acclaim, including:
- Scaling up solar energy initiatives
- Restoration of two living rooms
- Renovations to the Aggrey cafe and price management building
- Complete restoration of the graduate home at 422 Caldwell Street
The college also secured $6 million in federal tax credits through Bank of America to support these projects. And it’s not just this year’s show of confidence — $10 million at the start of the academic year in August reinforces the institution’s commitment to its long-term success.
“I am extremely grateful to supporters like our anonymous donors who continue to invest in our growth and upward trajectory Livingstone College” Davis said.
As the college prepares for its 12th winter commencement on December 12, this year’s author and media personality Dr. Michael Eric Dyson noted Livingstone’s expansion within the core HBCU community.
Rating structure support, renewed leadership energy and campus transformation are well underway. Livingstone College It is positioning itself as a model for what it can produce in the HBCU landscape for its focused investment and vision plan.
