Delaware State University saw enough success in DeSean Jackson’s first year as head football coach to keep him in Dover a little longer.
The school announced Tuesday morning that Jackson has signed a new contract that will take him as head football coach through the 2028 season.
Delaware State led the entire NCAA FCS in rushing with 291 yards per game and won the MEAC competition for the first time in three years. The Hornets (4-1 in conference play) were in the MEAC title race until the final week of the season when they beat South Carolina State 28-17.

“It’s an honor to give my all to these young people and represent one of the top Historically Black Colleges in the country, and I’m not going to take it for granted,” Jackson said in a statement released by the University. “We have some unfinished business to address on the field, and I’m proud to be a part of the athletic changes that are happening at the school.”
The contract extension comes on the first anniversary of Jackson’s interview and hiring by the university. In that time, Jackson has turned a program that hasn’t secured a winning season since 2012 into one of the best sports stories of the year.
“Our goal is to increase the number of storytellers like us who believe in the power of HBCUs and can invest in the future they see for themselves, their communities and their country,” said Delaware President Tony Allen. “Coach Jackson understands that vision and is helping us bring that message to the world.”
