University of the South The Power 12 continued its rivalry Sunday afternoon, defeating the University of Houston 70-62 at the Dertitta Center for its second straight win over a Big 12 opponent this season.
The Jaguars (6-3) controlled the game from start to finish, never holding a lead or possession for more than 37 minutes. Their balanced scoring and decisive interior play thwarted every Houston comeback attempt with early, timely perimeter pulls.
South, 38-29 at halftime, extended the numbers twice in the third quarter and led by as many as 16 points in the fourth. Houston made a late push, but it was South’s free throw line and tenacious defense that sealed the win.
Jaguars come off the heels of taking a win over Houston earlier undefeated Arizona.

How he bought south Houston
Houston capitalized on turnovers and jumped out of the South in the 18-12 first quarter and was hitting efficiently in transition. He provided an early spark in the Jaguars’ half-carrying momentum.
In the second quarter, South attacked inside and led to the floor with a floor perimeter guarantee and a shot from the cane. A late layup by Porter gave the Jaguars a nine-point cushion at halftime.
Houston maintained a double-digit lead in the final period behind Ross and Hunter in the third quarter, but inside South and a second-chance field goal. REED’s back-to-back layup led to 16 points early in the fourth, and the Jaguars held off Houston’s late rally with disciplined ball control and clutch free throws.
