The South Carolina State Football Team has won all of its meac games since today Chennis berries He was taken over as head coach last season.
As a personal winning streak, the coach himself earns three times the above amount.
Berry, who led Section Benedict to back-to-back SIAC titles in 2022 and 2023, heads to the championship this Saturday as the Bulldogs travel to Delaware State this Saturday. Both teams enter this weekend’s contest at 4-0.
“This is a new team from last year. Coach (Rooster) Jackson believes in those guys,” he said. “We respect every opponent, but we are not afraid of anyone. Our mission does not change: go 1-and-0.”
South Carolina State accomplished that mission with a 34-27 win at North Carolina Central last Fridayopened by a 30-yard Josh Shaw touchdown in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Berry is the key to the Bulldogs’ key success being ready for anything and everything 60 minutes of football can throw at them.
“We practice more situations than anyone else in the country,” he said. “We’re stealing goods because we’re preparing for it. Separation is in preparation.”
That preparation led to an individual 27-game conference winning streak for Berries as head coach. Following a 20-5 loss to MoreHouse College on October 23, 2021, Benedictine teams have won 18 straight SIAC games (including two conference championship games) and now nine straight as the Bulldogs.
Berry said his success is simple, having role models and role models and mentors for young men who will become adults in the near future.
“There’s no secret sauce. I’m just consistent,” he said. “We’re dealing with experienced young men and it’s bigger than football. Holistic development, discipline and accountability – that’s what we’re about.”
The Bulldogs will look to Delaware State on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Dolumi Stadium for their 20th overall Meac title. Kickoff is set for 1 PM and the game will be broadcast on ESPN plus.
