In a historic 2025 campaign for Virginia Union star Curtis Allen, he adds another impressive accomplishment to his resume, He was selected as the winner of the Harlon Hill Award.
Allen, the equivalent of Division II football’s Heisman trophy, became the first HBCU player to win the Harlon Hill trophy in its 39-year history.
Allen finished with 193 total votes, ahead of Harding’s running back Andrew Miller and University of Indianapolis quarterback Gavin Sukup, who tied for second with 101 each.
It marks the first time since 2013 that quarterbacks have won the award, snapping a 10-year streak.
Allen rewrote the CIAA record books, setting new marks for rushing yards in a season (2,409) and rushing touchdowns in a season (30).
It is the fifth-most rushing yards by a Division II player in a season, becoming the first since 2018 to rush for more than 2,400 yards in a season.
He has rushed for over 100 yards and scored at least one touchdown in every game this season, surpassing 200 yards four times and scoring 14 rushing touchdowns in those games.
That included a single game record 369 rushing yards against Bluefield State, breaking the previous CIAA record (361) set by former Winston-Salem State star Richard Huntley in 1994.
In addition to winning the Harlon Hill trophy, Allen was also named the CIAA Offensive Player of the Year, Super Region 1 Offensive Player of the Year and named to the AFCA Division II All-America First Team.
Despite falling three-peat short of a CIAA championship, it was Virginia Union qualified for the Division II playoffs for the fourth straight seasonbeing one of five active schools to do so.
