Shugar Shack Soul Food Owner Keenya Cain-Wiggins presents a freshly made takeout order to U.S. Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Don Graves.

U.S. Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Don Graves stopped by Shugar Shack Soul Food in Glenolden to meet with chef/owner Keenya Cain-Wiggins and enjoy a meal, as part of an outreach supporting minority-owned small businesses, reported the Daily Times.

“We are thrilled to have welcomed Deputy Secretary Graves to Glenolden Borough and to Shugar Shack Soul Food,” said Glenolden Mayor Cliff Engel. “Shugar Shack is a shining example of the many talented and driven minority-owned businesses that contribute to the vibrancy of our business community.”

Shugar Shack offers Southern and Caribbean soul food. 

The visit highlights the importance small businesses play as the backbone of the Delaware County economy, according to the Delaware County Commerce Center.

Small businesses comprise about 98 percent of Delaware County businesses, according to state and federal definitions.

Owner Cain-Wiggins founded Delco Nite Markets, which emphasizes Black-owned businesses in the community. She also has a podcast where she discusses economic opportunities with other business owners.

“Keenya Cain-Wiggins doesn’t just focus on her own success, she works tirelessly to lift up the entire community of small business owners in Delaware County,” said Dr. Monica Taylor, chair of Delaware County Council.
