Atlanta Falcons add Doug Williams’ son to coaching staff

The Atlanta Falcons have just added another former HBCU/SWAC quarterback to their coaching staff.

DJ Williams, former Grambling State quarterback, has been added to Raheem Morris’ staff as an assistant quarterbacks coach, according to Rod Walker. Williams has spent the last five years as an assistant with the New Orleans Saints.

He is the son of Grambling State legend and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Doug Williams. The younger Williams played at Grambling State from 2011 through 2014, playing under his legendary father as well as former GSU head coach Broderick Fobbs. He earned several NFL tryouts following the conclusion of his college career.

Ultimately, however, Williams made the choice to get into coaching. He has participated in the NFL/Black College Football Hall of Fame Quarterback Coaching Summit from 2019 through 2021 and again in 2023.

Williams is the second former HBCU/SWAC quarterback to join the Atlanta Falcons staff in the last few weeks. Former Prairie View A&M quarterback K.J. Black has been hired to join new head coach Raheem Morris’ staff as he looks to lead the Falcons back to respectability.
