Beyoncé once again broke the internet on Tuesday morning as she dropped the art for her new album “Country Carter”.

The cover features Beyoncé riding a white horse while dressed in red, white and blue western suit. The artist is carrying an American flag as the horse gallops across the dirt of a rodeo arena. Cowboy Carter is an homage to the deep influence and roots of Black Americans in rodeo, western and cowboy culture. The cover represents a powerful continuation of the Renaissance album cover where the star rode a metallic horse.

Beyoncé’s much-anticipated album doesn’t debut until March 29th, but it’s already caused waves in the music industry.

The single ‘TEXAS HOLD ‘EM’ propelled her to the top of the country music charts in February. Despite initial pushback from some stations, the icon became the first Black woman ever to have a number Country single.

Beyoncé addresses the anger and backlash she faced as she expressed her Texas roots through the Country music genre in act ii of Renaissance

In an Instagram post, Beyoncé addressed the resistance and racism she faced in working to reclaim the music genre.

“The criticisms I faced when I first entered this genre forced me to propel past the limitations that were put on me,” she wrote. “My hope is that years from know, the mention of an artist’s race, as it relates to releasing genres of music, will be irrelevant.”

Beyoncé said the album itself is “five years in the making”.

“It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed,” she said. “And it was very clear that I wasn’t.”

The incident Beyoncé is referencing is likely her 2016 performance on the Country Music Awards. The star performed her song Daddy Issues from her Lemonade album alongside The Chicks.

An exciting performance from a legendary artist was met with anger and racist backlash.

But now, on the heels of one of the most successful world tours in music history, Beyoncé is taking the Country Music industry by storm.

And she’s doing it by blazing her own trail.

“This ain’t a Country album,” she wrote. “This is a “Beyoncé” album.”

“This is act ii, COWBOY CARTER, and I am proud to share it with y’all!”
