BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Did you know that Baton Rouge has a Black History Hall of Fame?

The Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame was founded by Brenda Perry in the late 1980’s.

The non-profit describes itself this way, “The Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame has dedicated all efforts to specialize in the collection, preservation, and honoring of African American History with a mission to educate and inspire achievement.”

There are many categories in which individuals can be inducted and they are military service, community service-religion medicine, business and inventions, education-law, arts-music-entertainment, sports, politics and governmental leaders, communications-literature and civil rights.

Some of the notable individuals who have been inducted into the Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame include Dr. Leo S. Butler, Dr. Alvin Batiste and Reverend Lionel Lee.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Library provides a list of those who are in the Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame.

The Historic Lincoln Theater will eventually be the permanent home of the Louisiana Black History Hall of Fame and its exhibits.
