Experience the tastes of Alabama’s first Black Restaurant Week


Taste the flavors of African American, African and Caribbean cuisines by stopping by the eateries taking part in Alabama’s first-ever Black Restaurant Week. The event, underway through Dec. 20, features Black-owned restaurants, pop-ups and food trucks in the Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile areas, along with fun ways to win prizes.

Alabama’s Black Restaurant Week is part of a nationwide effort aimed at stimulating growth of African American-owned businesses and farms across the United States. Through its various culinary events and campaigns, Black Restaurant Week helps introduce these businesses and professionals to the community. Launched in 2016 in Houston, Black Restaurant Week is now celebrated in 11 locations.

Among the Alabama dining spots taking part are Jake’s Soulfood Cafe in Hoover, Foy Superfoods in Mobile, Rodney Scott’s BBQ in Birmingham, Plant Bae in Montgomery and Eugene’s Hot Chicken in Birmingham.

Along with tasting the specialty menu items offered by restaurants, there’s also an opportunity to win gift cards and other culinary treats by taking part in Restaurant Week Bingo. Simply dine, pick up curbside or order delivery at multiple locations to complete a row and achieve Bingo. For a chance to win, submit a photo of the receipt to MyBlackReceipt.
