Upcoming military training near Schofield Barracks


SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii — The U.S. Garrison Hawaii announced its training schedule for August that will affect surrounding communities.

Training will take place day and night and is based on weather and other factors. Note that overcast conditions can increase noise and vibrations, according to a release.

  • Aug. 1-5, 8-13, 20-31 – Artillery, mortar and small arms training at Schofield Barracks, day and night.
  • Aug. 1-7, 21-31 – Army Lightning Academy training, East Range.
  • Aug. 3-4, 18, 23 – Army Lightning Academy aviation training, East Range.
  • Aug. 17-19 – Demolition training at Schofield Barracks, day and night.
  • Aug. 27-28 – Combined arms live fire exercise at Schofield Barracks, day and night.

Some of the visible activities residents may see include bright orange lights during mortar training when illumination rounds are fired, as well as Unmanned Aircraft Systems on Wheeler Army Airfield, in restricted airspace over Schofield Barracks and above the northwestern section of the Waianae mountains.

Residents can report concerns about noise or training to the U.S. Army Hawaii’s Noise Concern Line at 808-656-3487 or email usag.hawaii.comrel@army.mil. Responses to calls and emails will be during business hours, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
